A vibrant and well preserved Margot De Taxco sterling silver 'Fish In Waves' champlev necklace with a matching pair of clip-on earrings. Margot van Voorhies was a highly influential silversmith working in Taxco, Mexico during the mid 20th century. Her pieces are renowned for their colorful enamels, finely crafted details, and traditional floral/serpent motifs found in Mayan, Aztec and Japanese designs.

The necklace features an articulated single strand of alternating enameled silver wave links connected to the back of the pendant. The robust enameled fish pendant has beautiful scale designs decorated with small blue stone accents, and a black stone/enamel eye. The fish's mouth is agape with a blue swirl of water that matches the wave links. The necklace secures with a slide lock and lays beautifully around the base of the neck.

The earrings feature the same enameled silver 'wave' design, each with a set of alternating blue swirls. The back of the earrings are soldered with unembellished silver hinge clips and have a tight unpadded fit. Both the necklace and the earrings are hallmarked 'Made In Mexico Sterling' with the Margot De Taxco makers mark and design number #5644.

This set is certainly a rare and important example of Margot van Voorhies fine craftsmanship. The champlev enamel designs have remained vibrant and mostly intact with some notable damage on the fish pendant (head and tail; see photos), and on a few of the links (along the edges). The silver has been polished to a relatively high shine but there are portions of of discoloration and tarnishing on the back of the links and earrings. Overall, the necklace and earrings have remained in great vintage condition. A great bohemian modernist statement piece for someone who like to stand out.
