Incredibly well-preserved antique Sumida Gawa vase. Hand carved and hand painted with figural embellishments and glazed accents. Features a three-dimensional scene of two people foraging for mushrooms, spanning two sides of the vase, and fish scale carvings that encompass the whole of the piece. The top of the vase features a semi translucent black, white, and blue marbled glaze, which slightly obscures the fish scale carving.

This piece is hand-made and likely dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. With incredible attention to detail exhibited, its preservation and condition make this vase highly sought after.

There are a few minor chips in the ceramic base, as well as general wear exhibited in the glazing of the piece. Nothing that effects the structural integrity or function of the work. Overall this piece is in good antique condition with age-appropriate wear and discoloration.
