We have an original late 20th century Richard Merkin "The Poet Of Wickedness #2" tempera on masonite mixed media large-format painting. Richard Merkin is a renowned American artist and illustrator from the 20th century known for his refined taste and stylized depictions of the 'interwar years'. He was highly inspired by the 1920s and 30s and painted narrative scenes in bright colors of jazz musicians, film stars, writers, and sports heroes.
The painting was done on a 42" x 50" wooden canvas and has been fixed to a deep wooden frame with attached hanging wire. The painting is unsigned but there are two labels attached to the back of the frame. One from a 1980 exhibition at 'Eric Mackler Gallery' in Philadelphia, and one from a 1976 exhibition at 'The Christian A Johnson Memorial Gallery' in Middlebury, Vermont.
