Antique Judaica 800 Silver Articulated Fish Spice Box With Red Jeweled Eyes, Large Standing Silver Spice Fish, Engraved Details, Hinge Mouth

Incredibly unique and well-crafted Judaica articulated silver fish spice box. The spice fish is traditionally used on Saturdays at sunset when Havdalah, the closing ceremony of Shabbat, takes place. The fish is made with 800 silver and features engraved texturing, most notably on the head and tail, 2 red gems bezel set as the fish's eyes, and a hinged mouth that can be opened to add/remove spices. The body of fish is comprised of interlocking sections that have been shaped like fish scales. The fish's fins can be found at the bottom act as a base so the box can stand upright. The flexible joints allow for the body to look and move like a real fish! Unfortunately, the hinged mouth is missing a piece, so it can not be securely closed...so the fish always has a jaw-dropped expression. Given its age, there is some notable tarnishing of the silver, but with a little love, this baby could look and work great! Marked 800 on the bottom of the feet for authenticity.
