1879 Hallmarked Victorian Sterling Silver Engraved Locket, Butterfly & Bird Scene, Valentines Day Gift

A wonderful 1879 hallmarked Victorian sterling silver engraved locket pendant. Features a skillfully hand-engraved 2 in 1 scene of a flying butterfly and diving swallow bird. The illustrations boast exceptional detail and are divided by a diagonally etched border.

The back of the case is undecorated, and the locket opens via hinge to reveal two oval picture frames with original hallmarks stamped inside. The pendant is suspended from a large swivel necklace bail and can be worn with most size chains.

There are some notable discoloration to the back and inside of the locket, but the intricately etched illustrations remain sharp and intact. Overall in exceptional vintage condition with age-appropriate wear and tarnishing.
